I got it!!!!

Marcia,
Your book came in the mail today! It is so beautiful!!!!!!! I have a couple of ideas of what I might do to add to it. First I need to finish mine. I am working on a study and am nearly ready to add the drawing to my book.
Here is the study.

This is from two photos of my mother one in her teens and one a few years before she died. I messed around with the computer doing the composition. I added chair bits, porch bits and ivy from other photos and came up with an image I liked. Now I am working on drawing it. I will do my best to give it life so that it doesn't look like a drawing of a photo.

  1. Katie,

I've been thinking about your drawing. I really like the expressions and the way they link with each other across the years. There seems to to be a dynamic established between the wistful, distant expression on the young face and the direct gaze of the more recent one.

  2. Thanks for letting me know you got my sketchbook, Katie.

What was your mom’s name? I’m not sure if you were planning to leave the young woman less defined than the older version, but I like it that way. The younger: her pose is tentative, demurring, less realized. The older: fully present, self-knowing, matter of fact. You’ve definitely gotten across the ripening of life--as we age, fully claiming our skin, the reality of our existence.
